While most abbey beers are brewed under a commercial arrangement with an external brewery, Val Dieu is the only Belgian abbey beer to be 100% brewed in a living abbey through the ancient infusion method and from the traditional recipes handed down by the former Cistercian monk-brewers of Val-Dieu.
The term ‘Grand Cru’ generally represents the premier beer of a Belgian brewers range. And this exactly what you would expect from a premier beer. A rich and powerful Belgian dark strong with the roasted malt character being the dominant feature, complimented by hints of chocolate, dark sugar, dark fruit and a medium bitterness. A very complex and yet soft aroma with a gentle spicy note to the lingering aftertaste.
