Piper Heidsieck Hors-Serie 1982 Champagne
Our Verdict
Very very limited - only 2,500 bottles available worldwide & presented in individual numbered boxes.
In 2021, Piper-Heidsieck launched their new series of Champagne "Hors-Série" and the first release was Vintage 1971. November 2022 saw the release of the next Hors-Série, which is Vintage 1982. Hors-Série 1982 has been disgorged in the spring of 2022 after 39 years of storage on lees by current cellar master Emilien Boutillat. The results of the 1982 harvest are considered amongst the most exceptional ever witnessed in the history of Champagne. The results were irreproachable and the harvest abundant! The grapes, all varieties included, were in excellent condition and stood out for their finesse, equilibrium and grandeur, hallmarks of a great year in Champagne.
"Yellow gold, this Dorian Gray of a Champagne is remarkably fresh with an immediate depth to the aromas combining grilled nuts, ginger/spice and smoky sandalwood notes, and then, on taste, there’s a light underlying sandalwood toastiness, with farm butter, pine and dried apricot, almost like a white Rhône; and thanks to such substantial aromatic depth, it’s almost impossible to stop nosing it but that intensity is reprised in a rich intensity of flavour with underlying stone fruits supported by the bubbling of a gentle pressure and a mouthwateringly dry, almost salty underpinning. Like a Montrachet with bubbles, it has enough life and vibrancy to evolve for at least another five years, possibly up to 10." - 97 Points - Anthony Rose, The Real Review
