OSSA Syrah 2021
Our Verdict
"Full ruby colour with a good tint of purple, and a spicy cool-climate shiraz nose, peppery, floral and gently bunchy with Italianate herb nuances. The wine is very elegantly shaped and structured, with fine grained tannins and delicious drinkability. Intense and focused, and superbly balanced. A beautiful wine, irresistible drinking!" 97 Points - Huon Hooke, The Real Review
"East Coast Tasmanian fruit, whole berries and some whole clusters, matured in French oak puncheons (25% new) for nine months. Tasmanian syrah, I learned on a recent visit, is a very good thing indeed. Dark and red plum fruits layered with dark spices, violets, white pepper, vanilla, roasting meats and some gingery spice cut across the field of vision. There's a plushness and grace here that will impress many, pitch-perfect ripeness and sustain and a sense that when it comes to syrah, Tasmania has just gone up a class. Superb." 96 points - Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion
"This is a big, inky expression of syrah, loaded with raspberry liquorice, quite sour overall but with plush texture and quite forward game meat and graphite characters. It’s a bold and lush slosh of dark fruit, earth and leathery spice, though a glossiness appears likewise and the wine finishes relatively long and somewhat fresh. You wouldn’t say an elegant wine, but you could say easy pleasure, savoury, striking in its way." 93 Points - Mike Bennie, The Wine Front
