Chateau Thivin Côte de Brouilly 'La Chapelle' Beaujolais 2023
Our Verdict
"Incredibly vibrant and expressive with so much energy, this is a rocky and racy expression of the gamay grape. The effusive violet aroma is underlined by a touch of cooked red-beet character. It has a long, quite dry finish in which the fine, compact tannins and stony minerality are tightly interlocked. From a steep, very high-altitude parcel with volcanic soil at the top of the south side of Mont Brouilly. 70- to 80-year-old vines. Drinkable now but best from 2026." 95 Points - James Suckling
"The 2023 Côte de Brouilly La Chapelle, from the steep slopes (50% grade) at the top of Mont Brouilly, offers a thunderous and wild aromatic profile, with dark berries, plums, chocolate, eucalyptus and cracked pepper dominating the nose. The concentrated, sappy fruit on the palate is matched by a taut structure and salinity, suggesting immense power beneath its poised and fresh exterior. Fine-grained tannins, seamlessly intertwined with graphite and flinty minerality, gracefully sheath the wine, drawing it into a tapering, polished finish. A work of both power and restraint, it reveals just enough of its character to appreciate its inherent sophistication needed to tame the latent energy. this is a wine with immense potential, promising further depth with time" 93+ ~ Robert Parker, Wine Advocate
