Giant Steps Bastard Hill Pinot Noir 2025
Our Verdict
Very limited.
"A touch richer and more opulent than the '24. Having said that, this is still a supremely perfumed wine, with aromas of alpine fruits, herbal bitters, orange peel, sandalwood and light rose petal. Medium bodied, with lovely mid-palate intensity and energy. The tannins are just so silky and long. Classic Upper Yarra pinot that will reward cellaring over the next eight to 10 years." 97 Points - Philip Rich, Halliday Wine Companion
"The Bastard Hill juggernaut shows no signs of slowing down. This release is remarkably pure and intense. It also has a distinct, almost defining, freshness; it tastes as though it’s been picked off the side of a mountain. Boysenberry, red cherry, violet and mint characters edge into fresh plum, peppercorn and woodsmoke – the latter notes riding inside the wine’s fruit. There’s a firmness to the finish but even so, freshness is maintained. There’s a genuine crushed purple flowers steeped in cherry-plum juice aspect to this wine; it has a prettiness but it’s not light. It’s an easy wine to label as seriously good." 96 Points - Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front
