John Hughes is the man behind Riesling Freak, and as the name suggests, he loves his Riesling. So much so, he only produces Rieslings, sourcing from different vineyards around South Australia and making it in different styles. This is the number 4, a dry Riesling from Eden Valley. This is crisp and clean with citrus and green apple. It’s the perfect accompaniment to some Chinese or Thai food. It’s also pretty great on its own.

Blackcurrant leaf and berry with tart lime, a touch of pickled Japanese ginger, some alpine herb and menthol notes, a scratch of dried and fresh green apple. It’s got some very, very frisky acid veins, briny almost, plenty of flavour, lots of get up and go. Quiet complexity in all this and a great sense of tension and energy. Right on. Pow.
